On August 13, 2026, Emmanuel Development Association (EDA), with support from the Freedom Fund, conducted a follow-up meeting with the established alliance under the Nigat Project – Ending Exploitation of Child Domestic Workers (CDW) at Gofa Zerayacob Elementary and Secondary School.
The meeting highlighted the project’s progress in strengthening protection systems and creating safer, more empowering opportunities for children and young people.
Key discussions and achievements included:
Strengthening integrated protection, counseling, educational, and material support for child domestic workers.
Establishing safe spaces and expanding vocational and life-skills training opportunities.
Engaging employers, community leaders, and local institutions through community dialogue platforms, including Buna Tetu discussions.
Supporting young people to access ID cards, bank accounts, and savings opportunities.
Promoting positive changes in participants’ confidence, communication, life skills, and awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
Strengthening collaboration among schools, community associations, employers, and government stakeholders.
Participants shared encouraging testimonials about the transformational impact of the project, highlighting improved self-confidence among young people, stronger relationships with employers, and valuable support from schools and communities.
Together, we remain committed to creating safer environments, expanding opportunities, and working with communities to end the exploitation of child domestic workers.
