UN OCHA-Funded Protection and GBV Life-Saving Response
Emmanuel Development Association (EDA), with funding from UN OCHA, is implementing an active protection and gender-based violence (GBV) response for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Efratana Gidem and Ataye Woredas, North Shoa Zone, Amhara Region. The project provides survivor-centred case management, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), family tracing for unaccompanied children, dignity kits, assistive devices, and community dialogues to restore dignity and improve well-being for vulnerable individuals.
Key achievements include the deployment of trained staff and the establishment of government agreements for coordinated service delivery; completion of referral pathway mapping to strengthen survivor access to services; training of 46 community focal points in Psychological First Aid (PFA); and the establishment of feedback and PSEA channels for community accountability and protection.
The project is expected to deliver improved GBV response and psychosocial well-being, facilitate family reunification for unaccompanied and separated children, and ensure dignified living conditions for over 1,000 vulnerable individuals affected by displacement and conflict in North Shoa Zone.

Service Coordination & Accountability
- Operational Setup: Deployed trained staff and established formal government agreements to ensure coordinated, multi-sectoral service delivery.
- Referral Mapping: Completed comprehensive referral pathway mapping to significantly strengthen survivor access to critical health, legal, and safety services.
- Protection Channels: Established dedicated community feedback and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) channels to ensure strict institutional accountability.
Community-Based Psychosocial Support
- First Aid Training: Trained 46 local community focal points in Psychological First Aid (PFA) to provide immediate, ground-level trauma support.

- Holistic Recovery: Structured to facilitate family reunification for unaccompanied or separated children and provide survivor-centered case management, dignity kits, and assistive devices.
- Target Reach: Positioned to ensure dignified living conditions and improved psychosocial well-being for over 1,000 vulnerable individuals affected by displacement and conflict across the North Shoa Zone.
