Child sexual exploitation is one of the most urgent child protection challenges in Ethiopia, particularly in urban centers and transit towns like Addis Ababa, where economic vulnerability and limited law enforcement coordination leave minors mainly girls between 13 and 17 years highly exposed. Many are attracted with varied perception and promises of work, better life or education, only to end up in small bars, informal brothels, or private houses.

Activities done as of August 20, 2026

1. A total of 30 victim were identified at the three implementation woredas among those 7 were rescues case and the remaining 23 were interception due to the risky conditions/environments of a child. And EDA was conducting aftercare services such as psychosocial & trauma counselling and materials supports such as cloth changes and sanitary materials.
2. Coordination and collaborative meeting: EDA has conducted this coordination and collaborative with a total of 15 participants including W/C/S/A, police and community informants and each woreda has developed a visible action plan and committees to effectively conduct follow up, case referral, and reporting to EDA.
3. Police & community training sessions: EDA has conducted structured training for police and community members on child protection, safe reporting, and survivor-centered response to build skills in handling cases ethically, ensuring confidentiality, and strengthening coordinated rescue and referral systems by engaging 50 individuals.
4. Mapping & hotspot verification: On this EDA has identified high-risk areas (hotspots) through community consultations, existing reports, and service provider data. Among them, Red light area, Dance bar, or hotels/restaurants, brothel, victim’s home and public places are mainly identified as a hotspot/risky environments for child exploitations.
