Creating Model Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Centers
With funding from Open Capital, Emmanuel Development Association (EDA) implemented a project to address gaps in early childhood development and transform ECCD centers into models for replication in other sub-cities of Addis Ababa. The project focused on building the capacity of ECCD teachers and directors and equipping centers with the materials needed to deliver quality, inclusive early childhood education.
Key achievements include training 30 ECCD teachers and directors from 20 primary schools on teaching through play, special needs education, the new preschool curriculum, creating comfortable learning environments, and providing psychosocial support; and equipping 20 ECCD centers with essential materials, transforming them into model centers for early childhood education that can serve as benchmarks for quality and replication across Addis Ababa.

Educator Capacity Building
- Professional Instructional Training: Trained 30 Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) teachers and directors representing 20 primary schools.
- Core Competency Focus: Delivered specialized coursework centered on learning-through-play methodologies, special needs education protocols, the new national preschool curriculum, psychosocial support techniques, and classroom spatial organization.
Center Transformation & Model Development
- Model Center Upgrades: Fully equipped 20 ECCD centers with essential early learning materials, transforming them into modern model environments.
- Scalable Benchmarks: Positioned these 20 upgraded spaces as structural benchmarks for quality and administrative replication across other sub-cities in Addis Ababa.
