Project Details

Since January 2025, Emmanuel Development Association (EDA), with financial support from KinVia, has been implementing the Community-Based Child Development (CBCD) Project in Boricha Woreda, Sidama Regional State, focusing on two kebeles: Konsore Chefa and Sedamo Dikicha. The project is designed to improve the overall well-being of children and youth by addressing critical challenges such as poor quality education, food insecurity, limited livelihood opportunities, and weak community and institutional capacities. Using a community-driven and participatory development approach, the project integrates economic empowerment, education, and social cohesion to create lasting change for vulnerable children and families.

In its first reporting year, the project has achieved notable results across all thematic areas. On livelihoods, 185 men were trained in agronomic and climate-smart agriculture practices, and two men’s groups cultivated 2.5 hectares of irrigated land producing onion, potato, and carrot, while four women-led groups with 97 members were supported in livestock activities including the distribution of 34 goats. In education, 380 child-friendly chairs and tables were provided to three Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) centers, with 16 facilitators and 65 teachers trained and two latrines constructed at school sites. Additionally, 17 Reflect groups with 395 members engaged in weekly learning, dialogue, savings, and income-generating activities — strengthening social cohesion and economic resilience across both communities.
