Project Details

Since March 2018, Emmanuel Development Association (EDA), with support from KinVia, has been implementing the Community-Based Child Development (CBCD) Project in Bora Woreda, Oromia Regional State, building on EDA’s earlier engagement through the Speed School (ALFA) Project launched in August 2016. Now in its seventh year of implementation, the project operates across three kebeles — Bote 02 (Boseke), Sori Dolessa, and Ellen — applying a holistic, community-based development approach to improve the well-being of children, youth, and families facing persistent challenges of poor-quality education, food insecurity, weak livelihoods, and limited institutional capacity.

Key achievements in the current reporting year reflect significant progress across all program areas. Twelve Reflect Circles with 242 members continued to strengthen community dialogue, savings, and learning. In agriculture and food security, 13 hectares were cultivated using improved seeds, yielding 173 quintals of wheat, teff, maize, and haricot beans, and 276 participants received nutrition awareness training. Women’s empowerment remained a priority, with 50 women trained in business skills and 31 group leaders trained in leadership and financial management, while three women-led groups were supported with livestock including 22 sheep, 8 goats, and 30 chickens. In education, 160 child-friendly chairs and tables were provided, 32 ECCE facilitators and 40 teachers were trained, and scholastic materials were delivered to 200 sponsored children — reflecting EDA’s sustained commitment to child welfare and community resilience.
