Woldiya located in north wollo zone and 521km away from Addis. Based on the 2007 national census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), Woldiya has a total population of 46,126, of whom 22,990 are men and 23,136 women). It is a connecting town of two regions (Amhara and Tigray) and serves as a capital town for North Wollo Zone. Many hotels/ bars, offices & business centres are found and many passengers and heavy truck drivers are stayed and use the town as transiting the town. High number of displaced people from Assab moved (previous Ethiopia port town now belongs to Eritrea) and become street vendors and involved in street works. In addition, Woldiya serves for youth and children as route to travel from neighbouring Woredas to Dessie and then Addis Ababa. Emmanuel Development Association in collaboration with ANPPCAN has been implementing an integrated community based child protection program with children on the move in the town.
