Dessie is a town in north-central Ethiopia. Located on the Addis Ababa - Asmara highway in the Debub Wollo Zone of the Amhara Region. Based on the 2007 national census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), Dessie has a total population of 151,174, of whom 72,932 are men and 78,242 women. The town is situated at 400 km from Addis Abeba, serves as a capital town for South Wollo Zone. It is among the largest town in the area and has number of factories, hotels (standard/ big & smalls), government administration and sector offices are well organized and functional. It also serves as a business center and transiting place for other regions, zones and districts. Thus, the town is able to attract many people for different reasons of searching livelihoods as well as enjoying/ seeking better lives.  Emmanuel Development Association in collaboration with Forum on sustainable child Empowerment (FSCE) has been implementing an integrated community based child protection program with children on the move in the town.
